Genryukan Aikido

Next week’s class

Next Monday (22nd November), Jim Dempster Sensei from Gowa Ryu in Ashford will be kindly taking the class in my absence (and Christophe’s of course).

So look forward to one of Jim’s nice signature warm-ups followed by some nice pre-grading practise!

Thanks again Jim for taking the class, much appreciated.

Get well soon Christophe

As you may or may not know, on Sunday Christophe received a very significant leg injury – dislocation and double fracture to the ankle, plus fractured leg (tibia).

The amusing thing (sorry Chris), is that it wasn’t received doing his various budo activities of Aikido & Kung fu. No, he slipped over while walking his dog.

I just went to visit the old fella in William Harvey Hospital (Ward Kings C2).

He is bearing up well, waiting for the swelling in his leg to abate before they operate and pin his leg back together.   The Nurse tells me he hasn’t stopped eating, and that he is now an honorary Anglaise, to which I of course replied “NEVER!”. As you can see, he flies the flag of aikido, still sporting a Genryukan t-shirt.

We of course wish him our very best, and hope he doesn’t get too bored during his recovery.

Neil Saunders Session

Last night,  Genryukan students had the pleasure of aikido tuition from Neil Saunders Sensei.  Neil has a 4th Dan in both Tomiki and Yoshinkan aikido styles, so has a wealth of experience  to draw on.

Hopefully I  recall correctly what we covered in the class;

Kamae

shomen uchi shomen irimi nage ichi

katate-mochi kokyu nage variations

Nikkajo

Osae waza

The club presented Neil with a Hyosho-Jo (certificate of appreciation) for all the help he has given us over the last year.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.  Our thanks go to Neil Saunders, Mark Atkinson and Dave Clarke for coming down.
